Delos

Delos is a Greek island/archaeological site in the Aegean Sea’s Cyclades archipelago next to Mykonos. Here, was the birthplace of Apollon & Artemis. According to mythology, this Island was created by Zeus in order to protect his children by Goddes Hera. It was one of the most sacred places of ancient Greece as well as one of the most important trade centres. There is evidence of habitation on the island that dates back to 3000 B.C. Its reputation as a sacred island began attracting large numbers of religious followers and, along with them, trade flourished, transforming Delos into a significant commercial port during the 1st millennium B.C. The island’s ruins encompass Doric temples, markets, an amphitheater, houses with mosaics and the iconic terrace of the Lions statues. The islands Archaeological Museum displays sculptures excavated from the site.

Folklore Museum

The museum is a group of three traditional stonehouses (The Kastro House, Lena’s House, Milos tou Mponi). These houses are amongst the oldest on the island with a big collection of antiquities belonging to the 19th century including furniture, jewellery, ceramics, embroideries, marble sculptures, tombstones, and other trinkets. The museum pays tribute to Mykonos’ traditional nautical roots with models of 19th-century Mykonian ships, maps, and an anchor. Ιt is also famous for its fine collection of paintings. Visitors are reminded of the War for Independence of 1821 courtesy of the canons, which are still impeccably preserved.
